Bill Derrough

Bill Derrough is Managing Director, Head of Moelis’ Dispute Advisory Group and Global Co-Head of Moelis’ Capital Structure Advisory Group.
The Firm’s Dispute Advisory Group has been involved in a range of high-stakes dispute-related situations, including successfully enforcing arbitration claims against sovereigns (e.g., Crystallex), leading settlement negotiations in large commercial disputes, assisting with litigation support (e.g., Citi v. Lehman), acting as investment banker in mediations, designing and executing claim monetization solutions for corporates, and raising capital for litigation funders.
Since inception in 2008, the Capital Structure Advisory Group has completed more than 600 engagements representing over $1.5tn in liabilities and is regularly ranked in the top three restructuring investment bankers globally. Notable engagements include Hertz’s $24bn reorganization in 2020, American Airlines’ ~$17bn reorganization and merger with US Airways in 2013, and Carvana’s $5.7bn in debt exchanges in 2023.
Prior to joining Moelis in 2008, Mr. Derrough was Co-Head of Jefferies’ Recapitalization and Restructuring Group for 10 years, where he led dozens of debt restructurings and served as lead expert witness in high-profile litigations both inside Chapter 11 proceedings as well as in state and federal courts.
Mr. Derrough has been qualified as an expert in the areas of valuation, capital markets, M&A and financing and other topics in a number of jurisdictions. He was lead witness on landmark fraudulent conveyance, bankruptcy valuation and cramdown cases, among others.
Mr. Derrough is a Fellow of the American College of Bankruptcy and the International Insolvency Institute, a former Director of the American Bankruptcy Institute, a Trustee of Bennington College, a Director of Youth, Inc, a Director of the Boy Scouts of America of Greater New York, and a Trustee of the Academy of Saint Joseph. Mr. Derrough served as Treasurer of the Democratic National Committee from 2017-2021.
