A go-to resource in contingent legal risk insurance, Alston & Bird partner Steven Penaro is a national authority in this emerging subset of transactional insurance. Steve, he has become nationally known for his work underwriting contingent legal risk and has built industry awareness in this new field. He has helped countless clients mitigate risk by preventing potential windfall losses from adverse decisions, locking in substantial portions of damages awards, and even assisted in monetizing judgments before lengthy appellate proceedings conclude. Outside of his expertise in contingent legal risk insurance, Steve focuses his practice on general commercial litigation with an emphasis on cross-border disputes work. With first chair trial experience, and as a member of the firm’s Litigation & Trial Practice Group, Steve has represented plaintiffs and defendants in litigation involving breach of contract, fraud, right of first refusal claims, various tort claims, securities law, and agency and fiduciary relationships. He has worked with clients across an array of industries, including health care, retail, and insurance.
