Brandon Baer is the Founding Partner and Chief Investment Officer of Contingency Capital, which he launched in November 2020. Prior to creating Contingency Capital, Mr. Baer was a Partner and Managing Director in the Credit Funds business at Fortress and was also the Co-Founder and Co-Head of the Fortress Legal Assets group from its inception through November 2019. While at Fortress, Baer focused on litigation finance, distressed debt, and special situations, with an emphasis on complex, private illiquid investments including litigation related assets. Prior to working at Fortress, Mr. Baer was a Senior Vice President at D. E. Shaw & Co., L.P. as a member of the corporate credit related strategies unit. Mr. Baer has served on numerous private and public boards, including Alloy Power, Direct Group, FAO Schwarz, Foamex International, Oasis Legal Finance, Boyds Collection Ltd., Sure Fit, and Optimal SPV OSUS Ltd. Mr. Baer also has served on ad hoc and official creditor committees including Adelphia Communications, BTA Bank, Dow Corning, Legends Gaming, the Legacy Estate Group, Silicon Graphics, and WR Grace. Mr. Baer began his career as an associate at Willkie Farr & Gallagher. He received a JD, cum laude, from Harvard University and a BA, summa cum laude, from Princeton University. He is based in New York.
